The school was organized by Kemerovo State University and the Institute of Mathematics of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. The conference drew more than one hundred participants from Novosibirsk, Kemerovo, Omsk, Moscow, Leningrad, and other Soviet cities. The aim of the school was to organize a system of contacts between algebraists and those working in analysis, in the broad sense of the term.
